Tests have shown that on typical paved surfaces, wider tires can have less rolling resistance. This is due to surface roughness. The auto road is very rough from spiked or tracked equipment that goes up in in wintry months. Ascutney, you had better have two working brakes if you plan to ride your bike back down. I have seen riders go up with one brake that took auto transportation down.
